“Do I need an MRI for my back pain?” In most cases, no. The majority of lower back pain improves without imaging. MRI scans can show disc bulges, degeneration and other changes that are also common in people without back pain. For most people, the focus should be on: • Education and advice • Appropriate hands-on treatment • Rehabilitation and exercise • Gradually returning to normal activity There are situations where imaging is important, particularly when there are concerning symptoms or when the result could change treatment. But for most people, you don’t need a scan to start getting better. A good assessment can help determine what you need — and whether imaging is actually necessary. At Sharp Physiotherapy, we focus on treating the person, not just the scan. The Sharp Physiotherapy Team
