This might seem like overkill and admittedly, after 13 years of putting poles up and down, I rarely do the full checks in my own home because I trust my ability... But... It doesn't matter if you have a pressure, mounted or stage pole. It's your responsibility to ensure your pole is safely installed and maintained in line with the manufacturers guidelines. Pressure poles from reputable companies are extensively load tested and when installed to their specification should be perfectly safe. Most of the issues with poles falling down are due to individuals who either buy cheap poles or don't install and maintain them correctly. They need to be on a suitable joist (which may need to be okayed by a professional). They need to be straight. They need to be adequately tightened. And you need to check them every time you train. When we buy a car and don't do basic maintenance we can't blame the manufacturer when it inevitably falls apart. It's the same here. It's your responsibility to install and maintain your equipment safely. And yes getting your pole screwed in is probably a safer and sensible idea but you still have to check the safety of your pole every time you use it!!!!!!!! You can't just bolt it up and never check it again. It's important to note that you can over tighten your pole which will cause it to warp. This could be unsafe both in the bending of the pole but also in damaging the floor and ceiling. I had an instructor who was convinced that pulling and pushing the pole from the middle was causing the poles to bend (even though that's how x pole tells you to test them for tightness).
