One of the strengths a dyslexic often has is often confused as unintelligence. Here’s the truth: dyslexic children struggle with word retrieval. They know the word. Their brain just takes a different route to find it. And when we rush them, when we don’t give them time, when we don’t offer alternative ways to express what they know, we’re sending them a message that they’re not smart enough. That their words don’t matter. And that kills their self-esteem. So here’s what actually works: when your dyslexic child is pausing, searching for a word, give them time. Let them describe it. Let them draw it. Let them show you in any way that makes sense. Celebrate the effort. Celebrate the thought. Because their intelligence isn’t in how fast they can retrieve the word. It’s in what they’re trying to say. This is about protecting their self-worth while they’re learning to advocate for themselves. Because dyslexic children are brilliant. They just think differently. And if we support that difference instead of rushing past it, everything changes. #dyslexiaspecialist #dyslexia #dyslexiasquad #NeurodivergentParent #dyslexicchildren
