Last week, we celebrated the grand opening of the new DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center. The new center is a shining example of what is possible when public service, expertise, generosity, and shared commitment come together around a common goal. DWCC represents the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's continued commitment to conservation, public service, and education. Special thanks to everyone who has donated time, resources, expertise, leadership, or support. DWCC is a place where injured and orphaned native wildlife receive expert care, where residents can better understand the animals that share our communities, and where current and future generations can build a stronger connection to nature. This work also carries forward a legacy that began more than 70 years ago, when Mrs. Hoger took it upon herself to care for injured birds. That simple but powerful act reflected a belief that people can make a positive difference in the world around them. Today, that vision continues on a much larger scale, with the center caring for more than 11,000 native animals each year. The majority of them birds. Like Mrs. Hoger, each one of us can affect positive change in the world around us.
