I’m 32 and there’s $568 in my Roth IRA. Not because I don’t save. My 401k has $83k in it. The difference is my job auto-enrolled me in one and it was super easy I’d heard about the Roth but I didn’t really understand the power of it compared to the 401k and I just thought as long as I have a retirement account I’m gucci That’s the part I think a lot of people miss. You don’t get a notification when you’re missing out on something. It just quietly doesn’t happen for ten years. Now I’m dropping my 401k from 15% down to the 6% match so I can actually fund this thing. The Roth grows tax free in the account so when you retire all the money in there is yours vs the 401k you have to pay the taxes on the growth They’re both great from what I’ve read but they both play their parts and even now I don’t full understand them but I just now one is heavily funded compared to the other So I’m going to make it a point to fund this fully each year from here on out Which account is better to have in your opinion the Roth or 401k?
